Message de Dees Burke-Kennedi (IWWF) sur la décision de l'IOC du 29 mai 2013 concernant l'introduction de nouveaux sports aux jeux olympiques de 2020 pour lesquels le cablewake était candidat:
HERE IS THE STORY : The IOC Press Conference was brought forward by 30 minutes, causing a scramble for seats here in St Petersburg tonight. The IOC spokesmen on... stage were Messrs Adams, Carraro and Dubi. The first surprise was that THREE sports would be selected for a later vote in September. The eight sports in the IOC list, including Wakeboard, were subjected to a confidential electronic Executive Board vote and were put through three rounds with nine rotations in all.
The next statement was that Wrestling got through straight off with 8 votes out of a possible 14 in the first Round. 'Huge cheers from the large Wrestling contingent present. Roller Sports and Wakeboard lost out in the second vote - not a good sign so early in the process. Then Sport Climbing also lost out. There followed a run-off between Squash and Baseball/Softball. Baseball/Softball won that battle. Then Karate and Wushu tied and Wushu lost that battle. By Vote 3 in Round 1, sadly, both Wakeboard and Roller Sports were eliminated. In Round 2, Karate got knocked out. At the end of 9 rotations and Round 3, the victors emerged as Wrestling, Baseball/Softball, and Squash. Right now, we are gathering our thoughts. It has been a fascinating experience, we have gathered a lot of new fans and supporters and we know that Wakeboard is made for the Olympic Games. It appears that we still have some convincing to do. In speaking to the President of Wrestling tonight, he was generous in his comments - and had all the appearance of a very relieved sport leader ! A big thanks to all our fans and supporters and especially to our hard working WAKEBOARD 2020 VISION team which invested hundreds of hours so generously and delivered a first class presentation on the day.See More
